AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT 587

BELLE HARBOR, NY

265 Fatalities

The accident aircraft was an Airbus A300 manufactured in the 1980s and the incident is known as the second worst airline disaster in the United States.  The crash occurred in November 2001, shortly after take-off and all 260 passengers as well as five people on the ground were killed.  The “official” NTSB report of October 2004, stated that the cause of the crash was the overuse of the rudder to counter turbulence.  However, in the wake of 9/11, rumors suggested that it had been destroyed in a terrorist plot.  T.J. Russo Consultants was retained by the property insurance carriers, in anticipation of litigation, for the homes that were destroyed on the ground.
